Narcissus tazetta Geranium.
We grow a few bulbs in pots each year and this year we have included a bigger daffodil, Narcissus tazetta Geranium. This is a multi headed scented daffodil with a short cup and wide leaves characteristic of the Tazetta division. The petals are chalky white and the cup is the colour of egg yolk. I wondered why it was named ‘Geranium’ as neither the flower shape nor the colour immediately call geraniums to mind. Raised by J B van der Schoot sometime before 1930, it is probably too late to ask. It has stood the test of time though and has the Royal Horticultural Society’s Award of Garden Merit.
